The examination has started

On 21 April 2026, the Lime Down Solar Examination began in Chippenham. Thank you to everyone who took part in the Open Floor Hearing and to all those who have contributed to SLD’s work over recent months.

SLD’s Written Representations and supporting documents were successfully submitted to the Planning Inspectorate late on Friday evening. This has been an enormous collective effort involving volunteers, experts and legal advisers working countless hours over many months. Together, the submission and supporting evidence run to thousands of pages and set out detailed evidence on the wide-ranging impacts of the proposed development. The documents are expected to appear on the PINS website next week.

Nearly 5,000 comment to PINS: 99% objecting to Lime Down

The Planning Inspectorate (PINS) published all public Relevant Representations to their website.

There were nearly 5,000 individual comments (4,958), that is a staggering amount. Moreover, 99% of the comments were in objection to the plans.

Lime Down Solar Park

Lime Down Solar Park is a 3,000 acre industrial facility proposed by Island Green Power, a Bermuda- registered company 100% owned by Australian venture capital group Macquarie.

The development includes:

  • thousands of solar panels, towering 4.5 metres (13.5ft) high;

  • 42 acres dedicated to battery storage containers, inverters, and substations;

  • all enclosed by 3-metre fencing with CCTV surveillance;

  • a 20km cable route to the national grid, tunnelling under the M4 and railway line causing further disruption to landowners and villages along its path.

This isn’t about clean energy – it’s about turning our countryside into an industrialised commodity. The profits will flow offshore while we are left with the consequences.
